Language days at the Academy

This term, students have taken part in 2 language- themed days at the Academy. These days have given students the chance to practise their language skills, and broaden their knowledge of different cultures.

On Tuesday 19 January students took part in Japanese day, when a range of activities were arranged to run in parallel with the school day. Lessons all began with a Japanese- themed starter; many students were even able to understand some simple Japanese words, and some managed to complete some simple arithmetic.

During break and lunch, Mrs Topham and Miss Corso assisted students in calligraphy and origami sessions. Many students had their names written in hiragana, and a number managed to complete a range of origami models. At lunchtime students were able to sample the themed menu in the Restaurant of Teriyaki chicken and noodles, which proved popular.

Students also took part in a competition to see who was the speediest with chop-sticks. Amongst many impressive efforts, Patrick Amoakohene managed to pick up an impressive 41 wasabi peas in 30 seconds!

Monday 1 February saw a French twist on the school day. All lessons began with a French activity; examples include translating lines from the Simpsons, and naming famous French nationals. Some staff were even brave enough to deliver their subject lessons in French!

In addition to this, the restaurant took on a French theme. Croissants and Pain au Chocolat were on the menu at break whilst students played boules in the playground, or listened to French music inside.

The following photos of famous French people were also hidden round the school. Mikal Usman (8 Walbrook) managed to correctly identify all of these famous French people. Can you?
